About the glen
Alva Glen is perhaps the most diverse and attractive of the many glens that slice deeply into the dramatic southern scarp of the Ochil Hills, in Clackmannanshire in Central Scotland.
The scenic attractions of Alva Glen are obvious to anyone who visits it. However, there is much more to the glen than that. Its geological history involves molten lava, huge earth movements, and mighty glaciers. The glen has much to offer the naturalist, too: read here about the local pond life, or about a local butterfly, the Northern Brown Argus.
Although the glen is peaceful today, it used to be a busy place, one of the centres of the Clackmannanshire woollen industry. Even thousands of years ago, Alva Glen was part of people's everyday lives: read the spooky story of one of Alva Glen's neolithic inhabitants.
