Alva Glen Heritage Trust

Sept 2016

Just some of the fantastic volunteers that come along to our workdays and get stuck in with a range of tasks. Really great work achieved today. Alva Glen has had more work carried out to improve paths and access to the glen thanks to a grant received from Paths for All.

New tool store and old tools

Submitted by Nathan on Tue, 05/11/2013 - 10:56

Sunday saw the inauguration of our new tool store, with everyone pitching in to move our tools into the container.

Although we haven’t got much in the way of tools,it will be far easier to have them all in one place. The container was paid for by money raised during the 2011 Illuminations. Once we are successful in our grant applications, we plan to put trellis and planting on the container, to make it stand out less!

After admiring the container for a while, a group took a walk into the Upper Glen and cleared out the ditches, prior to what will probably be a wet winter. The water bars and drainage we have put in are standing up to the traffic well, although there’s always more we can do.

Meanwhile, the lade stalwarts worked to excavate the wheel pit, and Andy and Jamie did a great job of sweeping mud and leaves from the steps and paths.

Finally, a third group continued to clear non-native trees, which will allow us to re-plant Scottish species in key areas of the glen.
